Brought up in the country, sport was a major part of Fran’s life and she was an accomplished netball player, having been selected in the NSW state squad, as well as a champion 400m runner.
Fran caught the travel bug in her late teens but kept things under control while concentrating on family and a career in IT, culminating in becoming National IT Manager in the public sector. A considerable life shift occurred with the collision of two major events– a job with the Sydney Olympics and the consolidation of our event management business, Cundy Sports Marketing. Nothing short of a career dream come true which only got better when Fran was selected as part of the torch relay for the Sydney 2000 Games.
Being on the marathon bandwagon has also brought some interesting career choices, such as becoming a course measurer and Fran was one of only three women in the world to have been elevated to a ‘Grade B’ level. Fran has measured events including the Sydney and Beijing Olympics and the Great Wall Marathon as well as in locations such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Penang, Guam, Macau, Queenstown, Pusan and New Delhi.
Travelling to events, participating in events and organising events all culminated in an enormous passion for marathons and travel. The obvious progression was to form a travel business that combined the two – hence the formation of RunFun Travel.
Fran’s burning desire to discover everything a destination has to offer has lead to some amazing experiences as well as some life changing ones. So now it’s time to share it! Having organised travel for the past 25 years Fran knows the ins and outs of the travel industry and having travelled the world as a corporate she also understands what travellers want and how much the small things matter.
Fran’s is on a personal mission to continue to travel, run and fit as much into one lifetime as humanly possible.
Dave is Mr Marathon! The longest serving race director in the world who lives, breathes and talks running, particularly distance running. If there’s an event on, a time that’s been run, a person associated with distance running anywhere in the world...... Dave knows the details.
Having been associated with marathons for decades Dave was a Board Member, Vice President and Technical Director of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) for 20 years. Apart from organising marathons Dave’s experience extends to many other facets of athletics – Race Director for the Sydney Olympic Marathons and Race Walks; IAAF International Road Running Technical Official (ICRO); IAAF-AIMS Grade A Course Measurer; IAAF-AIMS Course Measurement Administrator for Asia & Oceania; served for over 25 years on Athletics Australia's Distance Running Commission; and managed Australian distance running teams. He was awarded Life Membership of Athletics Australia in 1997 and the Australian Sports Medal from the Australian Government in 2000. Dave's intimate knowledge of the world of distance running and the relationships he's established over decades gives RunFun Travel the edge in linking with the world's best marathons and adventure races.
Dave has been an active marathon runner, finishing each of his 31 marathons with a best time in the 1981 Melbourne Marathon of 2.41.33. Dave completed his 44th consecutive City to Surf in 2019 and has now retired from that particular string of runs.
